Health and Safety for Every Family
The pandemic highlighted more clearly than ever the need for equal access to necessities like nutritious food and affordable health care — and how unequal some families' access is. Rhode Island Senate Leadership has been working hard to make sure that our most vulnerable neighbors have access to healthcare by expanding access to RIte Care, the state's Medicaid program.
We want to protect the Rhode Islanders most in need through legislation like:
Senator Sandra Cano's bill to Cover All Kids, which would expand healthcare access to Rhode Island’s undocumented children;
Senate Majority Whip Maryellen Goodwin's bill to provide healthcare access to low-income mothers for a year after birth, bill to provide healthcare access to low-income mothers for a year after birth;
and Senator Val Lawson's bill created with the NOURISH coalition which would create a retail SNAP program that would support families in need and local grocers.
